Pair of Jens H. Quistgaard "Stokke" Chairs by Nissen

Jens Harald Quistgaard "Stokke" Chairs / "Stick Chairs", Produced by Richard Nissen

Crafted from Rio rosewood (a dense, richly grained tropical hardwood that is today a protected and increasingly rare species) finished in both oil and lacquer. The frames are built entirely from tapered rosewood rods that lock together through pressure and geometry alone, without a single screw, nut, or drop of glue. Fittings are in chrome-plated steel, with the seat and backrest upholstered in black leather.

A rare piece of Danish design history. Jens H. Quistgaard conceived the design in 1965, and it was brought into production the following year by manufacturer Richard Nissen, as part of Quistgaard's "Stokke" series. It was decades ahead of its time, designed to be shipped unassembled and built entirely by hand.

Condition: Both chairs are in great condition for their age, with only minimal wear consistent with over half a century of history. One of the two is in slightly better condition than the other. Please see photos for reference.
