Released in 2007 and originally available through Dover Street Market, this collaboration reflects a long-standing creative relationship between Comme des Garçons and Chrome Hearts.
The connection between Rei Kawakubo and Richard Stark dates back to the early 1990s, when Kawakubo was among the first major figures in fashion to recognize Chrome Hearts’ potential outside its Los Angeles biker and rock origins. She introduced and supported the brand within Japan through the Comme des Garçons retail ecosystem at a time when Chrome Hearts was still largely unknown outside niche circles, helping it gain early visibility in Tokyo’s fashion scene which was one of the key factors in establishing its long-term cult following in Japan.
In 1991, Kawakubo invited Stark to model Chrome Hearts wares as part of an exhibition at Comme des Garçons’ Aoyama flagship. She also invited him to walk for Comme Des Garçons Homme Plus S/S 1992.
